Di Brandt (natural 1952) is an award-winning Canadian poet and literary critic. Despite a similarity of their list, she should non exist as confused sustaining poet Dionne Brand.

Biography

Di Brandt was innate within Winkler, Manitoba, and raised in Reinland, the conservative, fissiparous Mennonite village in Southern Manitoba. She left residence & moved to Winnipeg at a age of Seventeen. She received a BA from either the University of Manitoba, and went in to a Masters of Arts at the University of Toronto and a PhD around English literature at a University of Manitoba.

Her work

Di Brandt has published 5 collections of poetry: Currently Professional people Care (Toronto: Coach House, 2003), Jerusalem, beloved (Winnipeg: Turnstone, 1995), mother, non mother (Toronto: Mercury, 1992), Agnes in the sky (Winnipeg: Turnstone, 1990), & questions i personally asked our mother (Winnipeg: Turnstone, 1987). She has as well published the critical learn of contemporary American women's texts, Uncivilized Mother Dancing: Maternal Narrative within American Literature (Winnipeg: University of Manitobthe Click, 1993), & a collectiin of originative essays on cross-cultural poetics, Dancing Naked: Narration Strategies for Writing Through Centuries (Toronto: Mercury, 1996). She too recently freed Wakening, the collaborative poetry/music Video by having Dorothy Livesay (posthumously), Carol Ann Weaver, and Rebecca Campbell (2003).

She has received a Canadian Authors' Association National Poetry Award, the McNally Robinson Award for Manitoba Book of a Year, & the Gerald Lampert Award, and has been twice shortlisted for the Governor General's Award for Poetry, too when a Dillons Commonwealth Poetry Prize. Di Brandt occurs as previous poetry editor of Prairie Fire Magazine & Contemporary Verse Two.

Her poetry has been placed to music, & adapted for theatre, streaming video, film, video, radio, television, multimedia system performance, & dance. She is presently writing "Berlin Notes," according to a sise year sabbatical visit to it city (A foremost chapter was a handle feature inside Prairie Fire Fall 2003), & co-editing 2 volumes of proceedings from either the conference/festival, Wider Boundaries of Daring: The Modernist Impulse within American Women's Poetry (University of Windsor, 2001), with Barbara Godard, of York University. She is too co-producing Planet Globe, the musical Video featuring settings of American women's poetry by swell known composers such as Violet Archer, Barbara Pentl&, Chester Duncan, Jana Skarecky, Paul McIntyre, & others (performed, licenced for, & premiered at a Wider Boundaries conference/festival), together sustaining Barbara Godard, Jana Skarecky, and Brenda Muller. Her poetry suite, Sweet Sweet Blood is premiered at a Sounding in a Land music conference at the University of Waterloo in May 2004.
